The Plan

20 years ago, a class of 150 17-19 year olds walked the make-shift stage of the gynasium of M. D. Collins High School in College Park, GA, with plastic red graduation gowns and matching cloth cap, most after spending 5 years together, from the lowly Sub-freshman(8th grader) in 1983, to the mighty, exalted Senior. Little did any of us know, as we started jobs and adult living, joined the military, or enrolled in college, that we would never see each other at a 5 or 10 year reunion. Our only reunions over the years would be a chance meeting along Old National Highway, or somewhere around Atlanta. Miraculously, a group of classmates decided the wait was over and that no matter what, it was time for the "MD" Class of 87 to meet again.

A photo of some of the planning committee and other classmates from one of the 3 "pay-in-person" meetings, so cleverly organized by the Class of 1987 Reunion Planning Committee:

Tracie (Gardner) Reid
Tony Gaines
Renee (Jones) Smith
Nicole Turner
Keyna (Watson) Leach
Erin Wales
Bonita "Sue" (Clark) Jones
A Very Special Thanks to this group for not giving up on getting us all together!!!!

Reunion Day One- Meet and Greet

After 3 pay-in-person meetings around Atlanta's Southside, countless email communications with updates, and actual mailings of the itinerary, etc., the night of June 22nd had finally arrived. A miraculous 58 of us paid our reunion fees and were about to "meet and greet" each other, exactly 20 years and 2 weeks later. To walk into the Sydney Bowling Alley in Union City and see a facility full of area teenagers doing their Friday night thing, and then to be directed around the corner to a private room and all of a sudden see all these familiar faces from 20 years ago, was truly surreal. There was a lot of hugging, laughing, eating, bowling, drinking and catching up to do. After you hugged a good 20 people, you had to sit down and take it in, because of the disbelief that you were in a room with all these old friends. A consensus of the comments heard, were "Wow, " "Oh my God," and "Everybody looks so good." Time had been very good to this class!!!

We were all warmly greeted by the planning committee, who bestowed us each with a red and gold backsack that had our name tag, t-shirt for Sunday's picnic and an MD Collins pen. Many classmates stayed until the 2am closing of the bowling alley, catching up over a Senior yearbook.
